Founded in the 1890's, Daniel Swarovski invented a glass cutting machine and started the world's first hydroelectric glass cutting factory.  Swarovski crystal contains approximately 32% lead to maximize refraction.

In order to create a crystal that allows light to refract in a rainbow spectrum, Swarovski coats some of its crystals with special metallic chemical coatings.

All bicones are sold in packages of 12 beads each.   2xAB means the entire bead is completely coated.  AB means one side is coated.

Aurora Borealis, or "AB", is one of the most popular coatings, and gives the surface a rainbow appearance.
